What is the biggest limiting factor when it comes to drone flight time? It is usually the battery. Today’s LiPo batteries in most drones can fly for 20 – 30 minutes at the top end. MMC is hoping to change that with their announcement of the HYDrone 1800, the world’s first hydrogen fueled drone. The HYDrone 1800 can stay in the air for up to 4 hours without refueling and works in temperatures as low as 20 degrees below zero celsius.
In addition, hydrogen fuel offers many improvements over the traditional LiPo battery in the environmental realm. It is harmless to the environment, functions in low temperatures, and provides 8 times longer flight time than a regular battery.
