Dr. Karen Joyce once did a Google search for the term “Drones for Girls” and was not very happy with the results that she found. The results were pictures of girls in bikinis flying drones, which was not the image she was hoping. As a scientist and professional drone pilot in Australia, Dr. Joyce is working to encourage girls and women to become involved in science and particularly, drone piloting. This past October, Dr Joyce, along with fellow drone pilot and researcher Dr Catherine Ball, launched She Flies, which they believe will encourage women to get involved in science and technology, particularly drones.
